PGC Renewable Optimization Module

PGC Renewable Optimization Module enables PGC to control the output of solar and wind generating units, along with fossil-fired types, economically and in compliance with reliability standards, to meet the demand.

Why do all PGC users with renewable units need the PGC Renewable Optimization Module?
The intermittent nature of generation from renewable units presents a unique challenge. The PGC Renewable Optimization Module enables PGC to meet the challenge of controlling renewable resources like solar and wind.

Features of the PGC Renewable Optimization Module:

  • Improves utilization of renewable resources. Utilize renewable resources in dispatch with other units, while accounting for uncertainty in a renewable resource's realizable generation in the future, or while the resource's generation is curtailed.
  • Improves lookahead accuracy. Incorporate renewable forecast data into PGC's lookahead capabilities.
  • Incorporates renewables into reserves. Enable solar and wind resources to participate in the automated management of reserves.
  • Uses tax credits in dispatch. Consider tax credits in determining dispatch order in which renewables are utilized.

PGC can also maximize the benefit of hybrid resources (batteries on the same bus as intermittent resources, such as solar or wind). Such resources introduce substantial challenges to control because of the interactions of the co-located resources, including shared limitations on generation, and the variety of configurations among hybrid resources. PGC has customizable handling for any kind of hybrid resource.
