Regulation Score Card (RSC)

The RSC package calculates a number of regulation-related KPIs, including an estimate of overall delay in response, to enable detection of defects and errors in power plant control response.

Why does every utility need RSC?
  • Lack of precise power plant response to setpoints costs a great deal in economic deviation and additional fuel cost.
  • Units not providing the capability they are supposed to makes planning less precise and reduces the reliability of operation.

Features of RSC:

  • Scoring of accuracy and delay in response to regulation control signals.
  • RSC scores and statistics are available both for individual units and in aggregate (for the system or a defined set of units).
  • RSC makes score data available through a RESTful API.
  • RSC provides charts for reviewing regulation KPIs over any target interval.
  • In addition to actual regulation performance, RSC also scores the necessary unit capabilities that are required for regulation, against client-provided targets
    • Availability for AGC
    • Ramp Rate
    • Regulation range
RSC has been used to promote more responsive plant regulation performance. It can identify problems in plants in order to create a more reliable and economically efficient system. RSC can also meaningfully score renewable performance in curtailing while intelligently ignoring the lack of response caused by lack of irradiance or wind.
